Tooro Kingdom has announced that King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is in critical condition.
Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki confirmed the development in a statement issued today evening.
“This is to inform you that His Majesty King Oyo is currently in a critical condition,” Mr Rwomiire said.
He asked the people of Tooro, friends and well-wishers in Uganda and abroad to keep the king in their thoughts and prayers.
The prime minister also urged the public to avoid speculation, rumours and unverified reports about the king’s health.
“We understand the concern and anxiety that news of this nature will naturally cause, but we ask for calm, restraint and respect for His Majesty and the Royal Family,” the statement reads.
Mr Rwomiire said the kingdom would release updates through its official communication channels when appropriate.
“For now, we ask that we stand together in prayer for His Majesty,” he said.
The kingdom did not disclose the nature of the king’s illness or where he is receiving treatment.
