The Director of Kinyara Sugar Limited, Rajbir Singh Rai, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Managing Director of Victoria Sugar, Jiyani Alpesh, aimed at harmonizing trade practices in the Bunyoro sub-region.

The MoU followed a meeting with the outgoing Minister of State for Gender, Labour, and Social Development (Youth and Children Affairs) Mr. Balaam Barugahara at his offices in Kampala.

The MoU seeks to address rampant sugarcane theft in the Bunyoro sub-region, which has affected farmers, millers, and the stability of the sugar value chain.

The parties committed to strengthening cooperation, and ensuring harmony within the sector going forward.

Speaking after the meeting, Barugahara welcomed the initiative, describing it as an “important step towards the development of the sugar sector.”

“Dialogue, cooperation, and harmony remain key in addressing challenges affecting the sector and farmers in Bunyoro,” he added.
