Hon. Ambassador Adonia Ayebare has assumed office as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda.
His appointment follows a swearing-in ceremony on August 11, 2026, before H.E. the President at State House, Entebbe.
Ambassador Ayebare received the official instruments of office during a handover ceremony at the ministry headquarters in Kampala.
Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune handed over the docket after serving as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs since June 22, 2026.
Hon. Kasolo expressed confidence that Ambassador Ayebare's vast experience will strengthen bilateral relations and secure international markets for Ugandan goods.
Hon. Kasolo also cited the successful coordination and repatriation of 1,030 Ugandans from South Africa as a major milestone during his tenure.
Ambassador Ayebare commended Hon. Kasolo for maintaining administrative continuity and safeguarding consular services during the leadership transition.
The new minister returns to Kampala after completing a nine-year tenure as Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
He also led diplomatic coordination during Uganda’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement between 2024 and 2025.
Setting his administration's priorities, Ambassador Ayebare designated Economic and Commercial Diplomacy as the ministry's central focus.
He directed all Ugandan missions abroad to realign their operations to promote agro-industrialization, tourism, minerals, and technology.
"Economic and Commercial Diplomacy will be the Ministry’s primary contribution to the national tenfold growth strategy to expand Uganda’s economy to USD 500 Billion by 2040," Ambassador Ayebare stated.
He tasked diplomats with attracting strategic foreign investors and positioning Uganda as a competitive regional logistics hub.
Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador John Leonard Mugerwa welcomed the new minister and pledged full staff commitment toward achieving these strategic goals.
