President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Members of Parliament from Lango Sub-region to safeguard unity and strengthen service delivery following the National Resistance Movement’s strong performance in the recent general elections.

The President met outgoing and incoming legislators at State House Entebbe. He congratulated them on what he described as the party’s strongest electoral showing since 1996.

“I am happy to meet you and congratulate you for the good work in Lango and Northern Uganda in general,” said Museveni, who also serves as NRM National Chairman. He thanked the people of Lango and Northern Uganda for delivering what he called a landslide victory.

Museveni reflected on Uganda’s political history and cited leaders such as Milton Obote, Edward Mutesa II, and John Kakonge.
He said they rose to prominence at a young age but later lost influence due to sectarian divisions.

“The country was in their hands, but because they went into tribalism and religion, they lost it,” he said.

The President questioned why some leaders focus on identity politics instead of tackling poverty and low household incomes.
He reiterated that the NRM’s mission is to unite Ugandans and eliminate sectarianism.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven,” Museveni said, calling for reconciliation and inclusiveness.

He urged MPs to work closely with communities and prioritize programs that raise household incomes. He emphasized effective implementation of initiatives such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga. He also called for improved service delivery in health and road infrastructure.

Speaking on behalf of the legislators, Denis Hamson Obua, NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, thanked the President for his leadership.

He urged leaders to emulate Museveni’s example in promoting unity and discipline. He also stressed the need to intensify the fight against corruption and ensure proper implementation of government programs.

The MPs acknowledged progress in infrastructure and social services across the region. They commended the Parish Development Model for improving livelihoods in Lango.
