The Somali South West State Government Minister for Aviation and Transport, Hassan Abdinur Adan, has commended troops of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) for their role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
The minister made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Battle Group 45 headquarters in Barawe.
He thanked the forces for the expertise and effort they have invested in stabilising the area, noting that their willingness to serve away from their families is deeply appreciated by the Somali people and leadership.
“The way you conduct your work is admirable. Leaving your families to serve here is something we do not take for granted,” Minister Adan said.

He reaffirmed the South West State government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with AUSSOM and the UPDF, pledging continued support to sustain peace and stability in the region.
Battle Group 45 Commander, Colonel Justus Musenene, reiterated the UPDF contingent’s resolve to maintain the prevailing calm and protect key government installations in line with the AUSSOM mandate.
The meeting was attended by the Barawe Airport Manager, Mohamed Nurani Kasim, the Military Information Officer, Major David Akandwanaho, and other senior officials.
