Tooro Kingdom has confirmed that King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV left behind a prince as heir to the throne.
Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki said the prince’s identity would be revealed at an appropriate time. The process will follow Tooro traditions and customs.
“The continuity of the Crown is assured. His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom,” Rwomiire said.
The announcement followed King Oyo’s death at about 10pm on August 27, 2026.
Rwomiire described the king’s death as an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and Uganda.
He called on the people of Tooro to remain calm, united and prayerful during the mourning period.
Rwomiire said the kingdom would issue another statement with details about the heir, funeral and mourning arrangements.
King Oyo ascended the throne in 1995 following the death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.
