Thousands of enthusiastic participants donning mostly yellow and white turned up for the highly anticipated 51st Birthday Run in honor of  General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

Despite the CDF’s absence due to official engagements, his representative, Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander Land Forces (CLF), expressed overwhelming joy at the record-breaking turnout, describing it as a clear demonstration of public admiration for the CDF.

“This massive presence speaks volumes about the love and respect the people have for General Muhoozi,"Gen. Kayanja remarked while flagging off the 10km run at Kololo Independence Grounds.

“Even in his absence, your energy and enthusiasm show that his vision for a healthy, united, and environmentally conscious Uganda resonates deeply with all of us,” Lt Gen Muhanga said in Luganda, one of the local dialects.

Held under the theme ‘Greening Uganda’, the event doubled as an environmental awareness campaign, attracting senior military leaders, government leaders, women, youth groups, and veteran athletes—all united in promoting fitness and environmental conservation.

The run emphasized tree planting and sustainable practices, echoing Gen. Kainerugaba’s 50th birthday celebrations last year, which were marked by nationwide tree-planting drives.

Banners bearing birthday wishes for the General fluttered along the route, while spirited chants of ‘Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’ energized the runners.

Gen. Kayanja commended the discipline and commitment of participants, thanking them for upholding the spirit of patriotism and environmental stewardship.

Mr Mwesigye Frank, one of the organizers of the run, expressed his gratitude for the huge turnout.

“I am thrilled by the massive turnout. The theme, “Run for Greening Uganda,” was embraced wholeheartedly by participants from all walks of life. I sincerely appreciate everyone who came out in large numbers to show love and support for Gen Muhoozi,” Mr Mwesigye said in a post on his X platform.
