State Minister for Trade Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi has called on Ugandan producers and manufacturers to invest in high-quality branding and packaging to strengthen their position in both local and global markets.

Speaking at the close of a three-day Masterclass Training in Packaging Technology at Protea Hotel in Kampala, Gen. Mbadi stressed that packaging is no longer a secondary concern in value addition. The training was organized by the Ministry of Trade in partnership with the Institute of Packaging Partners of Uganda and the World Packaging Organisation.

“Packaging is no longer an afterthought in value addition. It is a decisive factor in market competitiveness, food safety, environmental sustainability, and consumer trust,” Mbadi said.

He emphasized that quality packaging, combined with proper product certification, is essential for gaining access to wider markets. He urged participants to raise the standard of packaging for locally made products so they can compete with established international brands dominating the Ugandan market.
