James Musumba, the Hoima District Deputy Internal Security Officer (DISO) is the latest victim of iron bar attacks.
A number of people in Hoima have been killed and others hospitalized after attacks by suspected iron bar hit men since beginning of the year. Residents have been blaming the unchecked criminality on laxity by security, until now that a security officer has fallen victim too.
Musumba was reportedly attacked by the criminals on Saturday at around midnight while he walked back home in Kijungu, Hoima Municipality. He sustained severe head and elbow injuries. He is now admitted at the Hoima Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
Christopher Katumba, the Hoima district police commander (DPC) says the assailants used blunt and sharp objects to hurt the victim, leaving him unconscious. The thugs also robbed the DISO of money and his mobile phone.
It was however not immediately clear from the DPC if the victim had his gun at the time and whether it was taken. DPC Katumba said the matter is being investigated and the hunt for suspects continues.
