The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) is investigating an incident in which one of its officers under AMISOM shot and injured a colleague before turning the gun on himself.
Captain Edward Ssebagala shot and injured Lance Corporal Jackie Nabifo before shooting himself dead. Defense Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire says Nabifo is still nursing bullet wounds, while investigations are underway to establish circumstances leading to the incident.
“Investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances behind this fatal incident,” Brig Karemire said on twitter. “Our condolences to the family of Capt Edward Ssebagala who shot himself while on mission in Somalia. We also wish quick recovery to L/Cpl Nabifo Jackie whom he injured,” he added.
Meanwhile unconfirmed security reports suggest that Cpt Sebaggala and Lance Corporal Nabifo were in intimate relationship, but recently the deceased accused Nabifo of cheating on him with another officer.
