Police in Kampala have arrested two armed robbers and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of live ammunition.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says the thugs in a group of four were intercepted by police during an intelligence-led operation on Wednesday evening in Bweyogerere. The other two escaped with bullet wounds after police shot at them.
Onyango explains that the suspects travelling on two motorcycles were intercepted while on a robbery mission to a yet to be identified place in Njeru. They were intercepted at Total Petrol Station Bweyogerere at around 10pm.
They have been identified as Moses Mugerwa and Drake Sekyanda Kinene Drake. “One of the motorcycles used by the robbers Reg. No. UET 487F TVS star, red in colour was recovered and now in custody at Bweyogere police station.Suspects are detained at CPS Kampala pending interrogation,” Onyango said.
He adds that the hunt for the remaining suspects believed to be armed with a pistol is underway.
