The police in Wandegeya are hunting for unidentified men that attacked an NRM supporter and nailed his hands.
The victim has been identified as Baker Kasumba, a 21-year-old a resident of Avis Kivulu in Kawempe Division. The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango says Kasumba was on Wednesday night confronted by two men near Kalerwe Flyover and hit on the head leaving him unconscious.
The assailants later nailed his hands with two 6-inch nails and run away. According to police, the assailants ran away after two approaching women confronted them.
“Two ladies who were looking for their child that had gone missing saw the men and shouted at them to leave their child,” Onyango said in a statement.
“They thought the men were kidnapping their child. The two men decided to run away when the women reached the scene, they made an alarm and the police of Kibe/Kalerwe responded and Kasumba was rushed to Mulago Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment,” he added.
As police investigations into the attack commence, politics is not being ruled out since days before, the staunch NRM supporter had been confronted by an unidentified man who warned him against supporting NRM and President Museveni.
“According to Kasumba, on Sunday 25/8/2019, a man approached him at his workplace and confronted him to stop supporting NRM and President Y.K Museveni. This was a planned and an organized attack,” Onyango said adding that the attackers seem to have trailed the victim who was donning the yellow NRM cap all the way from his workplace.
Kasumba works at Jesco Ham Shopping Centre. Police regard this attack as political intimidation; “We shall not accept this kind of political intimidation and whoever is using it should desist from it,” the police have warned.
This is not the first time violence has been meted against NRM supporters and the President himself by purported members of the opposition.
During the Arua Municipality by-election in August last year members of the opposition attacked the president’s convoy and stoned the rear glass of one of the cars among other cases.
