Police in Mpigi are holding a 38 year old man on allegations of defilement and infecting his seven year old Niece with HIV/AIDS. The suspect Joseph Kaweesi is a resident of Lukango in Kamengo Subcounty.
Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says the suspect committed the offense in the year 2017 while at Lukango village. Enanga reveals that investigations started after intelligence obtained from a medical facility, which diagnosed the victim, a P.4 pupil, with HIV/AIDS, yet both parents were examined and found to be HIV negative.
“As a result, the victim revealed how the suspect, known to her as a maternal uncle, defiled her on three separate occasions, from his gardens at Lukango village. She added that the suspect threatened to kill her if she ever revealed the matter to anyone,” Enanga explained.
“The matter was however, brought to the attention of her parents in 2018, and were equally threatened by the suspect, till September, 2019, when the intelligence was picked by the police,” he added. Kaweesi was nabbed on September 26, examined and found to be HIV positive and on ARV drugs. “The public is reminded that Aggravated Defilement is a crime of Capital nature and can carry a sentence of up to life imprisonment, if found guilty,” Enanga emphasized.
