Police have recovered a total of nine guns in less than a month. The riffles believed to have been used in armed robberies, were recovered through intensified security operations in various parts of the country.

The latest rifle, No UG POL11002647-101858, with three rounds of ammunition was this week recovered from Abdallah Kyaze in Nsangi. According to Police, Kyaze who is a resident of Kibuye was arrested while heading to Maya, with the gun wrapped in an empty bag of sugar.

“The suspect alleges that he was sent to bring the gun to Nsangi for a mission by one Yazidi”, Police explains in a statement adding that on interrogation Kyaze revealed that they have done several robberies in the areas of Kalerwe, Luzira, Salama Road, Kabalagala, Namasuba, Natete, Wakaliga Busega, and Bweyogerere.

“We appreciate citizen vigilance and cooperation in restoring security in the country”, the police said revealing that this is the 9th recovered gun in their custody. Security has intensified operations in Kampala and other areas following the revised security plan to defeat criminal gangs, recently rolled out by the Deputy IGP, Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeeyi on directives of the President.
