Police in Bududa District are hunting for a 10-year-old pupil for reportedly stabbing to death a colleague he accused of having an affair with his 11-year-old girlfriend.

The suspect who is a pupil of Buwali Primary School and a resident of Bunamubi trading centre in Bukigai Sub County is currently on the run with his father.

Police have identified the victim as Sam Watsosi aged 16, a senior two student at Bulucheke Secondary school. The suspect, whose identities have been kept because he is a minor, reportedly committed the crime on Sunday at Bunamubi trading centre.

He reportedly stabbed the victim after suspecting him to be in love with his longtime girlfriend. After the incident, Watsosi was rushed to Bududa hospital, where he died later on Monday evening.

Bududa District Police Commander (DPC) Jaffar Magyezi, on Wednesday morning said the police are hunting for the suspect.

Meanwhile there is high tension in Bunamubi as relatives of the deceased threaten to attack the suspect’s family in revenge. DPC Magyezi has warned Watsosi’s family against lawlessness, as police hunt for the suspect to face the law.

The incident has left the area in shock. Some local leaders attribute it to moral decay, wondering how a 10-year old boy could have a girlfriend.
