The police in Kampala are holding a man for allegedly vandalizing and stealing Telecom cables.

The suspect has been identified as Wambere Massette, a resident of Kawanda. Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says the suspect was on Thursday night arrested by the Police 999 patrollers along Ben Kiwanuka Street in the City Centre.

“On 06/02/2020 at around 23:50hrs (11:50pm) , our officers while on normal patrols along Ben Kiwanuka street, sighted three (03) persons who were vandalizing Uganda Telecom Cables in a Manhole, on seeing a Patrol car they run away but one identified as Wambere Massette a resident of Kawanda was arrested,” Owoyesigyire told journalists in a statement.

The suspect was handed over to Central Police Station Kampala, where he is currently detained. Wambere was found with spades, helmets, a metal hand saw and other metals for opening manholes. “He will be charged accordingly in court,” Owoyesigyire said.
