A murder suspect has died after reportedly running mad in Rukungiri police custody.
30-year old Adios Naturinda, a resident of Bunono Parish, Nyarushanje Sub county, Rukungiri district had been arrested in connection to the murder of Pauson Muhwezi on Feb 22.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson says the suspect died at Rwamahwa Health Centre IV on Monday evening. He had been rushed to the health facility in the morning after developing signs of mental illness the previous day, Sunday while in police custody.
“The deceased showed signs of lunacy by talking uncoordinated words from yesterday but one (Sunday) while in custody and yesterday(2/3/20) in the morning he was rushed to Rwamahwa health center 4 for treatment, unfortunately he passed away in the evening,” Maate said in a statement on Tuesday.
He added that the body had been transferred to Rwakabengo hospital mortuary for postmortem to establish the exact cause of death.
