Police in Mbarara has arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly defiling his four-year-old niece and infecting her with HIV/AIDS.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson identifies the suspect as Alex Tumusiime. According to Kasasira, the incident occurred on April 29 in Bugashe Cell, Nyakayozo Division, Mbarara Municipality.

“Tumusiime performed a sexual act with the female juvenile well knowing that he was HIV positive, after buying her a soda and a cake and convincing her to enter his house,” Kasasira explained.

He says the case was reported to Ruti police station by the mother of the victim, Juliet Nabukalu on May 3/2020 The suspect has since been on the run until recently when he was arrested by Ruti police and transferred to Mbarara Police Station.

Police say that both the victim and suspect have been undergoing a series of medical examinations which proved that the suspect was HIV positive and had sexually abused the minor.

The police added that the minor had also been put on Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
