More than five public officers from Kamuli Municipal Council have been arrested on orders of the State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Peter Ogwang. 

The officials were arrested on allegations of mismanagement of public funds meant for the construction of several infrastructural projects in the Municipality. Ogwang is in Busoga sub region to monitor the status of the implementation of Central and Local government projects. 

Among those arrested include; Nairuba Monica, Town Clerk, Northern divison and
Moses Kadhuba, Municipal Engineer etc. 

It is alleged that the named Municipal officials and other at large mismanaged Shs349m when they used it to construct the Municipal Administration Block whose construction has stalled before the slab level is completed. 

The officials also failed to account Shs112m meant for the construction of the Community Hall in the Northern Division. The building remains incomplete yet over 90% of the funds have already been given to the contractor who has since abandoned the site. 

Ogwang also inspected several other projects in Kamuli including the over Shs1. 6bn Kamuli faecal sludge management facility that has remained non-operational for more than 2years.

"We have dealt with some bad elements in Kamuli District today. We shall clean up civil service and bring timely services to the people. Jinja, see you at 8am," Ogwang tweeted.

The Minister will tomorrow, Wednesday camp in Jinja District and City to check on the performance of various projects.
