On November 16, 2024, at about 3:30 pm, a group of IMBALU boys armed with pangas, sticks, and stones launched an attack on several individuals in Katwaka Cell, Bumagenyi Ward, Industrial Division of Mbale City.
Police Public Relations Officer ACP Kituuma Rusoke revealed that the attackers inflicted injuries on a man, Swaib Wesonga, striking him on the head with a panga. Additionally, they robbed other victims of their belongings, including mobile phones and other yet-to-be-identified items.
Wesonga was swiftly taken to Bunampongo Health Centre III for first aid, with his relatives ensuring he received immediate care.
Police in Mbale City have since arrested three suspects connected to the attack: Bosco Wamimbi, Bernard Watuwa, and Moses Wabulo.
ACP Rusoke emphasised that security agencies are treating the incident with utmost seriousness, as it threatens to tarnish the reputation of a cultural practice that has been peacefully observed for generations.
