In a swift and precise operation, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) counter-terrorism unit early this morning engaged and killed two armed terrorists in Munyonyo, a high-end suburb of Kampala.
According to Col Chris Magezi, the Acting Director Defence Public Information, this was a well-executed, intelligence-led operation.
In a statement issued on his X platform, Col Magezi said the operation, based on credible intelligence, thwarted a potential attack amidst the Martyrs Day celebrations.
One of the terrorists, female, was a suicide bomber laden with powerful explosives, said Col Magezi.
Security agencies remain on high alert, with increased deployments across major public spaces, places of worship, and key infrastructure to ensure the safety of citizens during the Martyrs Day commemorations.
The public has been urged to remain calm but vigilant.
