Ugandan armed forces have been authorized to enter the territories of the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to hunt down ADF terrorists who have been using the DRC areas to launch attacks on Uganda and other parts of the region.
Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi accepted the request made by his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni.
According to Radio France International, "this is a sensitive decision, which has not yet been officially announced by the two heads of state."
Citing a UN source, RFI reports that the decision by the Congolese head of state was taken Friday evening.
It is reported that the United Nations have been informed of Félix Tshisekedi's desire to let the UPDF enter the territories of North Kivu and Ituri.
It should be remembered that two weeks ago, the ADF carried out twin suicide bombings in the middle of Kampala. This followed two other explosions; one in Komamboga where one person died and another on a passenger bus.
In the wake of recent attacks, it is believed that the Ugandan authorities increased the pressure on DRC to allow the UPDF to hunt for the terrorists hiding in the DRC.
The Kampala Post understands that Uganda has been trying for years to obtain the approval of the DRC for this operation.
