Education Minister Janet Museveni has reiterated that no registered candidates should be blocked from doing exams, as UNEB releases the 2019 PLE results.
Speaking during the ceremony at Kampala Parents School on Friday, the Minister maintained that all candidates must be given equal opportunity to do exams. “Let the exams decide on who will pass or fail,” she said.
Cases of candidates being blocked from doing exams by school administrators over unpaid dues, were registered last year.
Meanwhile results indicate that at least 69,243 (10.1 percent) of the candidates passed in Division one, 318,155 passed in Second Division, while 140,420 passed in Third Division.
“A total of 89,332 candidates have passed in the Fourth Division while 66,152 accounting for 9.6% are ungraded,” UNEB Executive Secretary Daniel Odongo said, adding however, that this year’s performance has improved compared to that of 2018.
Mr Odongo said although the exams were conducted smoothly, cases of malpractice were registered from some schools. He revealed that malpractice was manifested in form of cases of external assistance given to candidates by third parties inside the examination rooms. The UNEB Boss said because of the malpractices, about 61 suspects had been arrested, while results of 1,512 candidates were withheld.
Odongo noted however, that the number was much lower than the 3,346 candidates' results withheld previously in 2018.
