The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) on Friday officially released examination timetables for the 2020 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE); Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
The 2020 examinations are being held in 2021 because of the need to make up for time lost by the candidates during the lockdown due to COVID-19.
According to Dan Odongo, the UNEB executive secretary, students sitting UCE will be briefed on Feb. 26, 2021, and they will start exams on March 1.
For PLE, the briefing will be on March 26, with exams starting on March 30.
UACE candidates will be briefed on April 9 to start exams on April 12 and finish on May 3.
UNEB says 1,181,965 will sit national exams this year, with 748811 doing PLE, 333,775 doing UCE and 98379 sitting UACE exams.
51.1% of these are females.
Females dominate numbers at both PLE and UCE, but at UACE, 57,167 males will be doing exams compared to 41212 females UNEB “strongly” warned “all persons… contemplating any involvement in examination malpractice”, noting “that the Board will be very harsh on them this time round.”
“If Examinations are riddled by malpractice, the results therefrom cannot be a true reflection of the candidates’ grades and competencies,” Odongo said during the Friday media briefing.
