President Museveni will on Sunday, Jan 10 preside over at the launch of the distribution of mosquito nets in Kampala and Wakiso districts.

The ministry says the venue will be announced before the event. Museveni's event is to roll out the exercise officially but the distribution will start tomorrow, Friday.

The government, through a program dubbed 'Under the Net', has been giving out Long-Lasting Insecticide-treated mosquito nets since August 2020.

The target is to distribute 27.5 million nets with an eye on increasing ownership of these nets and growing a culture of net use.

During this campaign, people are also trained on how to use, care for, repair, and repurpose the nets.

The ministry says it had since last year doled out over 20 million nets in 122 districts across the country.

After rolling out the exercise in Masaka and Wakiso, the government will be left with Muyabe, Jinja, Kaliro, Luuka, Kayunga, Mayuge, Kyegegwa, Kibale, Mukono, Kagadi, Buyende and Iganga districts.

The health ministry expects to distribute over 3 million nets covering 1200000 households, with the exercising ending on Jan 13.

The ministry says malaria prevalence in Kampala and Wakiso is as low as 1%, but it kills at least 4 people in these districts daily.
