President Yoweri Museveni announced Thursday evening that Uganda will have shipped in 23 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines by end of November.

The doses will be enough to immunize 12 million people, including the 4.8 million in the priority group, that is, people with comorbidities that are 18 years and above, elderly aged 50 and above, health workers, teachers, and security personnel.

The president has tasked local leaders to ensure that people are vaccinated as the economy will be fully reopened in January of next year despite the stage of immunization the country will have reached.

As of October 26, 2,985,391 doses had been administered, according to the health ministry.

Uganda's strategy is to vaccinate 22 million people, or 49.8% of the population.

After the priority group, anyone 18 years and above will be immunized and, in the third phase, children below 18 will be immunized following recommendations from the Scientific Advisory Committee.
