Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital welcomed its first baby conceived through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), commonly known as the "test-tube baby" method. The healthy baby girl weighed 3.4 kg at birth.

Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the ministry's spokesperson, announced the news on X.

"Congratulations ???? [Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital] @MulagoSWNH upon your successful first In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) delivery of a healthy baby girl, 3.4 kgs," Ainebyoona posted.

He explained that IVF is "a type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) where an egg is fertilized with sperm outside the body, typically in a laboratory."

The IVF process involves retrieving eggs from a woman's ovaries, fertilizing them with sperm in a lab, then transferring the resulting embryo to the womb. This initiative provides new hope for Ugandan couples facing infertility challenges.
