Uganda's water transportation network received a significant boost on August 8th 2024 with the ceremonial launch of the MV Bukungu—Kaberamaido—Kagwara 1 on Lake Kyoga. The new ferry, capable of carrying over 300 passengers and 20 vehicles, marks a major step forward in improving connectivity and accessibility in the region.

A key highlight of this project is the government's decision to offer free transportation to all passengers. This unprecedented move is aimed at enhancing economic opportunities and improving the lives of residents in the area.

Constructed by Songoro Marine Transport Limited, the ferry is expected to significantly reduce travel times and boost trade and tourism on Lake Kyoga. As the vessel undergoes final preparations before full operations, there is growing anticipation about the positive impact it will have on the region's development.

The launch of the MV Bukungu—Kaberamaido—Kagwara 1 is part of the government's broader plan to modernize Uganda's transportation infrastructure.
