An annual physical fitness exercise and route march was on Thursday flagged off at the UPDF 2 Division headquarters in Makenke, Mbarara.

The exercise was flagged off by Brig Gen. Fred Karara the 2 Division second in command, who emphasized the importance of body fitness training in armed forces. "In every strong armed force like UPDF, body fitness is crucial and as a soldier you need to be physically fit 24/7 in order to be above any enemy," he said.

Brig Karara thanked the Commander in Chief and President Gen Yoweri Museveni for ensuring that all serving officers and militants undergo body fitness tests regularly to ensure a healthy and strong UPDF. He informed the officers and militants that such fitness activities like route march and body fitness exercises are meant to enhance fitness and will be a regular activity in every military formation in the UPDF establishment.

The exercise participants included all commanders of Units and Brigades under 2 Division and all specialized Units attached to the Division. The High Command recently resolved on the reactivation of physical fitness training and tests, which have since been rolled out to all UPDF Units.

The Special Forces Command (SFC) and the Police Presidential Guard (PPG) are undergoing the same, while the UPDF Land Forces undertook similar drills recently.
