'I won't lie that I don't support NRM' - Eddy Kenzo

Musician Edrisah Musuuza, known professionally as Eddy Kenzo, said that he has a number of friends that support the ruling NRM, so his association with the political party is inevitable.

"I won't lie that I don't support NRM because a number of NRM people are my friends. You understand! Just like how people in other political parties are my friends. I can't fail to work with someone because of political differences. I love people, and I have friends in both the opposition and the ruling government," Kenzo said while speaking to newsmen after performing at Bebe Cool's annual show dubbed Tondeka Ekiwatule.

"So, If Bebe Cool is NRM straight away, I have no problem with him and he should keep on doing that. And in the same token, I can't stop anyone from supporting the opposition. They should do what they wanna do, you understand? I can't stop people from working with people I love because they belong to a certain political group. I will work with them, I don't care."

Kenzo has on numerous occasions been criticized by some of his fans for being close to some people in the ruling government, including Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who has attended some events organized by the crooner.

She is the one who delivered President Yoweri Museveni's condolence message to the Sitya Loss singer when he lost his brother Male Hassan Mande in October.

Events promoter Balaam Barugahara recently revealed that Kenzo started working with Nabbanja before she even became a Member of Parliament (MP).

"The prime minister is a person like me... one of her first government appointments was RDC [Resident District Commissioner]. She used to deal with the Kenzos. She owned a bar in Kakumiro. Kenzo and Nince Henry sang at her functions a lot. So, when she comes to her brother's or son's functions, those who don't want friendships, don't like Uganda,” Barugahara said.

Nabbanja, who is Uganda’s first female prime minister, has been the Woman MP Kakumiro District since 2011.

Before becoming a lawmaker, she was an RDC for 10 years, serving in Pallisa, Busia and Budaka.

Kenzo has also met the President himself.
