Dr Yona Baguma Appointed New Director General of NARO

Dr. Yona Baguma is the new director general of the National  Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), Frank Tumwebaze, the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries announced his appointment on Thursday morning.

Dr. Baguma, who has a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and has been the acting Deputy Director General of NARO, replaces his boss Dr. Ambrose Agona.

According to Minister Tumwebaze, Dr. Agona will retire on April 21. "Glad to announce to the agricultural research community, & all stakeholders of @MAAIF_Uganda, that in accordance with the NARO law, I have appointed Dr Yona Baguma as new DG @narouganda  to replace Dr Ambrose Agona who retires on 21st April 2023," Tumwebaze tweeted.

"I wish to thank Dr Ambrose Agona for his efforts in leading our agricultural research agenda. @narouganda continues to develop highly resilient seed varieties that sustain our production. I thank the council of @narouganda for conducting a transparent recruitment process." NARO is mandated to undertake research in all aspects of agriculture including crops, livestock, fisheries, forestry, agro-machinery, natural resources, and socio-economics.
