President Yoweri Museveni will make a state visit to Kenya later this week, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, revealed during the second session of the Uganda-Kenya Joint Ministerial Commission on Cooperation on Monday, May 13.

The event, which is ending today, has been taking place at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel since Sunday, May 12.

It has brought together senior technical officials from both countries, including the Permanent Secretaries to deliberate on various matters aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.

Speaking in the Permanent Secretaries’ Session of the meeting this morning, Bagiire said that in light of the forthcoming visit, the holding of the JMC “could not have come at a better time,” stating that Uganda attaches great importance to its bilateral relations and cooperation with Kenya.

Bagiire expressed pleasure that both countries have made tremendous progress in implementing most of the decisions of the inaugural JMC particularly in addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade.

The Principal Secretary Dr. Korir Singoei, in a speech read by Amb. Dennis Mburu, Director for Africa at Kenya’s Department for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs -- thanked the Government of Uganda for convening the JMC and for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the Kenya delegation.

He emphasized the significance of bilateral engagement in deepening socio-economic development and fostering strong partnerships. He commended the progress made during the session and called for continued collaboration.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Permanent Secretaries expressed optimism about the outcomes, with agreements reached to be signed during the Ministerial JMC scheduled for May 14.
