EAPCCO GAMES: Uganda Police Emerges 3rd Overall Winner

The Uganda Police Force team has emerged third in the just concluded Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) games held in Nairobi Kenya.

The team brought home 20 gold, 23 silver and 10 Bronze medals in ten sports disciplines of athletics, darts, ludo, tug of war, shooting, boxing, javelin, relay, discuss and taekwondo. The games that commenced on August 26, 2019 and ended August 31, 2019 saw Uganda finish behind winners Rwanda and Kenya in second place.

Other teams including Burundi, Tanzania and South Sudan emerged 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. Officiating at the closing ceremony at Kasarani National stadium in Nairobi,on Saturday, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary Rachel Omano thanked the member states of Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) for the spirit of cooperation and coordination through sports as one way of combating organized transnational crimes in the region.

"We need these serious engagements by member countries bringing officers to come together and interact. It's not about competition but sharing ideas and information. This will help combat organized transnational crimes through enhancing friendship, cooperation and teamwork between security agencies and this will create a very good police in duty performance," she said.

This year's EAPCCO was convened under the theme "Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Integration in the Fight against Transnational and Organized Crime." The Republic of Rwanda will host the 4th edition of the EAPCCO games in 2020.
