ARUA. The currently scattered vendors in the makeshift markets within Arua City will soon be smiling in the new state of the art Arua Central Market which is currently at over 90 percent completion rate.

Dott Services Limited which is charged with the construction of the modern market is currently in its final stages of handing over the market that will be the center for trade in West Nile.

Close to 5,000 vendors in Arua, Maracha, and as far as those from the Democratic Republic of Congo will have space to do business in the new market that is undoubtedly a market that should be in the newly declared Arua City.

This will also have a ripple effect in terms of availing market for agricultural products among other locally produced goods and services hence improving household income.

Arua main market was identified as one of the 21 key markets for construction in 19 urban centers including Kampala under the markets and agricultural trade improvement project, a five year Africa Development Bank-funded project.

The market is fitted with components such as value addition facilities for processing and packaging of commodities, restaurant, state of the art garbage management system, storage facilities, and a modern public address system with ceiling speakers for easy communication, daycare center, and installation of solar for reliable power among others. 

Mr Hudson Mayombwe, the Project Quantity surveyor who took a media team on a guided tour said that the market will be complete by October.

The engineering contractors Dott Services Limited has a proven record of accomplishment and is a reputable company in Uganda, something that has earned them a number of construction projects ranging from industrial facilities, bridge structures, roads, electrical, or water projects among others.

The market located in Arua Municipality, Arua District will be the biggest State of the art modern market in Uganda.The Ministry of Local Government is in charge of the market funded by African Development Bank (ADB).
