The Ministry of Works and Transport has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China State Engineering Construction Company to upgrade Kasese Airport into an international airport.
General Edward Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport, signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Uganda. The project will be fully pre-financed by the Chinese firm.
The company will begin by reviewing the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority’s master plan before developing new designs for the upgraded facility.
Susan Kataike, the Senior Public Relations Officer at the Minister of Works and Transport, confirmed the development in a statement on social media.
Once completed, the international airport is expected to enhance trade and tourism in western Uganda and improve connectivity in the region.
Susan said the project is a step towards strengthening Uganda’s aviation infrastructure and regional economic integration.
