Michelle Mrikatete beat other contenders to become the representative for the Tooro region in the 2023 Miss Tourism Uganda beauty pageant.

Mrikatete, 23, hails from Kabarole district. She was announced over the weekend at an event held at Mountains of the Moon Hotel in Fort Portal. Coming in the second position was Cynthia Karungi,  who was followed by King Nyagoma.

The competition, which lasted months, was graced by participation from university students. The final competitions will be held on September 9 at Kampala Serena Hotel. Winners from all the regions across the country will face off at the grand finale. Conservationists and environmentalists who attended the event have presented a proposal about the need to drive a campaign to protect the decreasing glaciers on Mt. Rwenzori which is located in the Tooro region.

Uganda is among the countries that have been hit by climate change, hence the theme of Miss Tourism Uganda 2023: 'Greening Tourism'.
