Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha, Managing Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), has been honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Water Management & Science award by the International Water Association (IWA).

This prestigious accolade, the highest honour bestowed by the IWA, was presented at the IWA President's Dinner in Toronto, Canada, in recognition of Dr. Eng. Mugisha's remarkable achievements in research, science, and water management on a global scale.

With over 30 years of leadership in the water sector, Dr. Eng. Mugisha has significantly impacted the industry worldwide. His work has centred on performance monitoring, incentive design, and productivity analysis, contributing to the improvement of various organisations’ performance globally.

Dr. Eng. Mugisha is a well-respected figure in the water sector, having served as a Board Member and Vice President of the IWA. He currently presides as the President of the African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA). Additionally, he is a Fellow of both the International Water Association and the Sense Research School of the Netherlands, with numerous peer-reviewed papers and books on water management to his name.

The IWA Awards recognise outstanding contributions and achievements in water science and management, celebrating excellence, leadership, and innovation in the sector. The awards also encourage sustainable water management practices, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

In presenting the award to Dr. Mugisha, the judges praised his pivotal role in transforming NWSC into a global model for water utilities. They highlighted his expertise in organisational transformation and executive management as crucial in advancing the sector. Dr. Mugisha's leadership in promoting best practices in water management and sanitation, through his roles as AfWASA President and IWA Fellow, was also commended.

This distinguished award, often referred to as the highest recognition in the water and sanitation sector, was presented to Dr. Mugisha by IWA President Tom Mollenkopf.
