The UPDF is investigating a senior officer at the rank of Colonel over conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline, the army spokesman Brig Richard Karemire says.

According to Brig Karemire, the officer is not under custody as reported by the Daily Monitor newspaper.

"The UPDF refutes the story in today's Daily Monitor paper that one of its officers is imprisoned for allegedly spying for the Republic of Rwanda. This is false. The said Colonel is not under custody but is being investigated for conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline," Brig Karemire said in a tweet early Wednesday morning.

Under Section 66 of the UPDF Act, the offense of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline is broadly defined as “any act, conduct, disorder or neglect to the prejudice of good order and discipline of the army.”

A person convicted under the provision “shall be liable to dismissal with disgrace...”
