BUHWEJU. Christians of Bubaare Parish church in Buhweju District and surrounding areas have been asked to support government efforts to fight household poverty by explaining various efforts aimed at creating wealth among Ugandans.

Speaking at Rev Fr Alex Akankwasa’s thanksgiving ceremony who was ordained on Saturday at Kitabi, Lt Col McDans Kamugira who represented the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO) Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba urged the Church to love and support the government, its leaders and be advocates of its programs.

Lt Col Kamugira who is the in-charge Civil-Military Cooperation in the office of the SPA/SO singled out the president’s campaign of fighting poverty in households and imploring families to guide their children to pursue science courses.

“We need more innovators in the country if we are to develop and it starts at the family setting. So, kindly be good disciples of government programs during your pastoral work in your churches,” Lt Col Kamugira said.

President Museveni has on many occasions noted that Uganda is on the right track in terms of infrastructure development like roads and electricity but expressed concern that the presence of household poverty would slow the country's push for prosperity.

In his message to the congregation, Col Kamugira conveyed warm greetings and congratulatory salutations from Gen Kainerugaba to the people of Buhweju and in particular Rev Fr Alex Akankwasa.

Col Kamugira also congratulated Bubaare Parish Priests for nurturing Rev Fr Akankwasa till he made it to his ordination.

He also applauded the missionaries of Africa who stand for peace and justice, evangelism, education, health, and pastoral work.

In his concluding remarks, Col Kamugira appreciated the people of Buhweju for turning up in very big numbers, appreciating their role in the National Resistance Army (NRA) struggle.
