President Yoweri Museveni and Mr Hussain bin Jassim Al-Nowais, a Special envoy of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, have agreed to the building of solar and wind power generation plants in West Nile and Karamoja sub-regions.

Jassim Al-Nowis who is also the Chairman of AMEA Power group, met President Museveni on Wednesday at State House, Entebbe.

During the meeting that was also attended by Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sam Kutesa and Energy State Minister, Simon D’Ujanga among others it was revealed that the West Nile Region will benefit from the establishment of a 10-Mega Watt solar power plant and another 10 Mega Watt wind powered plant while Karamoja will have an 80 Mega Watt solar power plant and a 120 Mega Watt wind driven power plant.

Welcoming his guest to Uganda, President Museveni observed that the power investment plants are such huge sum of money projects into which the investor is ready to pour financial resources that should be embraced without further ado.“On power generation, there should not be time to waste,” the President said.

Mr. AI-Nowais assured President Museveni that the investment opportunities projects, especially that of West Nile, will be ready before January next year. He revealed that the United Arab Emirates has more strategic interests to invest in Uganda with the aim of building and strengthening cooperation and development agencies in Uganda, to create jobs for the youth and empower the people economically through the establishment of micro-finance businesses in the country.
