Two More Kenyan Truck Drivers Test Positive for COVID-19 in Uganda

The Ugandan Ministry of Health has confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 in Uganda out of the 2,071 samples tested on Thursday.

In the tweet, the ministry also explained that out of the 2,071 samples tested, 492 samples were from the community. They all tested negative for COVID-19.

"The two new cases are both Kenyan male truck drivers aged 55 and 27 who arrived into the country via Busia and Malaba respectively," the health ministry tweeted.

The total number of confirmed cases in Uganda now stands at 83 with 52 total recoveries and 0 deaths. This means that the active positive cases in Uganda stand at 31.

According to the ministry of health, a total of 2,248 contacts to COVID-19 confirmed cases have been listed to date. Of these, 1,440 have completed the mandatory 14 days follow up while 808 contacts are being followed up by surveillance officers. 

In Kenya, authorities announced on Thursday that the total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country had risen to 396. Total recoveries stand at 144 while 14 Kenyans have succumbed to the virus.

Tanzania is leading East Africa in the number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases with over 480 cases. Rwanda has 2017 positive cases. 

Meanwhile, in Tanzania, Parliament has been suspended after two legislators succumbed to the deadly virus.

In Africa, the coronavirus had infected at least 38,263 and killed over 1,595, according to Worldometer's count on April 30.

Since the first case was reported in Wuhan, China, on December 31, 2019, at least 3,234,915 people worldwide had been infected by April 30. 

The total number of deaths worldwide was 228,598 and that of recoveries at 1,009,290. 

The number of active cases stood at 1,997,027, with three percent or 59,776 of them being critical and the rest mild. 

Worldometer's count showed that the number of closed cases was 1,237,888, with 82 percent or 1,009,290 being the number of recoveries or those discharged.
