The Ministry of Health confirmed 28 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday night, pushing the virus curve to 281 patients.
In a tweet, the ministry said: "Today, May 27, 2020, 28 new COVID-19 cases confirmed. Total confirmed cases are now 281."
According to the ministry, 21 new cases are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu while seven cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers.
"The contacts were under quarantine at the time of test," the ministry added.
A day earlier, the ministry had confirmed 31 new cases of the virus.
As is the practice following the presidential directive, the ministry did not allow foreign truck operators who had tested positive for COVID-19 to enter Uganda.
"7 positive foreign truck drivers (4 Tanzanians,1 Eritrean,1 Congolese and 1 Burundian) were handed over to their country of origin," the ministry said.
So far, the total recoveries remain at 69 while the country has not registered any death related to COVID-19.
