Ms Sarah Kanyike, the councillor representing Makindye East has turned down Kampala Lord Mayor Eria Lukwago's plea to reject president Museveni's appointment as one of the directors at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

This has prompted Mr  Lukwago to appoint Ms Doreen Nyanjura as his new deputy.

Mr Lukwago had pleaded with Ms Kanyike to reject the appointment but the Kampala Post has learnt that Ms Kanyike has tendered in her resignation as Deputy Lord Mayor.

Lukwago angered by Kanyike's appointment

Lukwago who was bothered by the appointment said he would appoint another deputy if Ms Kanyike who has been Lukwago's deputy since 2016 does not make her decision by Tuesday.

According to the KCCA Act, the Lord Mayor appoints his deputy and the council simply approves his choice.

President Museveni nominated Dorothy Kisaka as the executive director of KCCA, David Luyimbazi Ssali as the deputy director, Dr. Daniel Okello Ayen as director of public health and environment and Grace Akullo, as the new director human resource and administration.

Lukwago Fails to Sleep

On Monday, Mr Lukwago told the media that he had lost sleep after the “devastating” news of the appointment of his deputy by President Museveni.

“I had failed to sleep but my wife insisted I sleep. She saw me seated most of the night. I constantly checked social media but all streams confirmed the first news (of President Museveni’s appointment of Sarah Kanyike),” Lukwago said.

Mr Lukwago said when he checked social media after his Saturday morning prayers, it was the same story.

“I want to tell you it hurt me seeing my deputy enlisted (as new director),” he said.
