Brig Richard Karemire has officially handed over the Office of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) Spokesperson.

In a ceremony that took place on Friday, Brig Karemire handed over office to the new UPDF Spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekweso. 

Karemire was last week transfered to EAC Secretariat as Defence Liaison Officer in a reshuffle that saw many senior UPDF officers transferred.

While receiving office at UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya, Brig Byekweso commended her predecessor, Brig Karemire for the job well done and promised to keep the candle burning.

"I have today taken over the office of Defence Spokesperson. My brother Brig Gen Richard Karemire is commended for the great work and the UPDF fraternity wishes him well.I look forward to working closely with you for the common good of our country.The struggle continues," Byekweso said in her as first tweet as UPDF Spokesperson.

Byekweso is the first female officer to take up that position. She is also currently serving as Member of Parliament representing the Army.
