The Minister for Works and transport Gen Edward Katumba Wamala has said that public transport could be headed for another lockdown should motorists continue flouting the COVID-19 directives.
While reopening public transport last month, the Government guided that all passengers should wear face masks and that vehicle owners must ensure social distancing as well as the use of sanitizers.
In a tweet on Monday, Gen Wamala said expressed concern about the neglect among operators of public transport as well as passengers.
"Fellow Ugandans, it has come to my attention that some taxi operators and motorists are not obeying the #COVID19 guidelines in place."
"With the increasing cases of community transmission, we may be forced to halt public transport," the minister added.
His comments come a day after the health ministry announced 66 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.
Of the new cases, 53 were from alerts while 11 were from contacts of previously tested cases. Two were returnees. The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 1,500.
