President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday allowed schools to re-open on October 15 for the candidate classes (primary seven, senior four and senior six) and tertiary institutions for finalists.
In the Sunday address, the president also permitted the reopening of Entebbe International Airport and land borders for tourists. However, the tourists should have tested negative 72 hours before arrival in Uganda and the tour operators have to ensure that the tourists do not mix with Ugandans.
The president also allowed Ugandans who have negative PCR results to go home if they are returning from abroad. The Ministry of Health will only get their addresses for follow-up, he said.
At border districts where movements had been restricted, the ban is now lifted.
Places of worship have also been allowed to reopen on condition that they observe the necessary SOPs and prayers and fellowships do not exceed 70 people.
For the sports sector, teams participating in tournaments will be quarantined for the whole season of the competition while indoor sports activities, including gyms remain closed. The sectors that have been closed and are not included above will remain closed.
Uganda has so far recorded 6287 cases of Covid-19, 63 deaths and 2616 recoveries.
