Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Kutesa applauded the outgoing Ambassador of Japan to Uganda Kazuaki Kameda for the achievements made during his tenure.

According to Minister Kutesa, Kameda has played a crucial role in promoting bilateral relations between Japan and Uganda.

The minister cited projects like the New Nile Bridge, the ongoing Kampala Flyover Project, and other various interventions in the fields of Agriculture and Health, which have been fulfilled during Ambassador Kameda’s tour of duty in Uganda.

Just a week ago, the ambassador announced that the government of Japan had since March of this year committed $4.1 million (about Shs15 billion) to the United Nations for various development and humanitarian initiatives in Uganda.

The funds, which were shared among UN four agencies, will help support refugees and host communities, as well as border security over a period of one year from April 2020 to March 2021.

These agencies are the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

On his part, Ambassador Kameda thanked the government and the people of Uganda for all the cooperation and facilities put at his disposal during his tour of duty.

He promised to continue promoting the good relations between the two countries.

The luncheon to bid the ambassador farewell was also attended by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Mohammed Sulieman Ahmed, the Chief Representative of JICA in Kampala, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Patrick Mugoya and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
