2021 presidential race: EC clears eight aspirants

The Electoral Commission (EC) has already cleared eight presidential aspirants ahead of nominations for the 2021 elections, Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesman confirmed by phone.

The aspirants that have been cleared are Yoweri Kaguta Museveni from the ruling NRM, Patrick Oboi Amuriat (FDC), Mugisha Muntu (Alliance for National Transformation).

Five contenders have been cleared to run as independents and they are Fred Mwesigye, Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu, and Nancy Kalembe Linda, Joseph Kabuleta Kizza and John Katumba.

According to Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the chairperson of EC, presidential candidates will be nominated on Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The nomination exercise will be conducted at Kyambogo University Sports Grounds, starting at 9am and ending at 5pm on each of the appointed dates.

After nominations, EC is expected to announce the dates for campaigns and elections.
