The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer, Yoweri Museveni, will today kick off the campaign to retain his seat.

Unlike previous campaigns where candidates would address rallies, this time round campaigns will be held following strict guidelines from the health ministry due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Meanwhile, musicians including  Ronald Mayinja and Catherine Kusasira are already in Luweero where Mr Museveni is expected to launch his campaign. The President will meet party leaders at Kawumu before addressing the supporters later on radio and TV.

Adhering to COVI-19 guidelines

In adherence to the set guidelines, Museveni will start his campaign trail by addressing selected leaders from Luwero at Kawumu. Later, he will address the public through radio and TV.

In his tweet today morning, Museveni said: "We get onto the campaign trail today. I will meet NRM leaders from the Greater Luwero area and thereafter speak to our people through radio and TV."

He signed off with his manifesto slogan, Securing your future.

Like in all parts of the country, the NRM senior party members, mainly Central Executive Committee and the national secretariat will form the advance team for the presidential campaign meeting in Luwero.

According to the NRM Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba, in her letter to the party's leaders last week, "The advance teams have been detailed to meet with the district leaders and all flag bearers of the NRM in each constituency within zones, before the arrival of the presidential candidate."

President Museveni is expected to have meetings around the country.

The meetings will be held with all NRM leaders and flag bearers at the constituency level (Members of Parliament), district, division, city and sub-county levels.

The advance teams, Lumumba said, will meet MPs, city mayors, city division chairpersons and the councilors. The others will be the district chairpersons and councilors and the sub-county chairpersons and their councilors.

Considering the district leadership, those expected to attend include the chairpersons and their executive committee members; among the other expected members.

She also noted that among the many issues, the advance teams will brief flag bearers about the presidential candidate's zone campaign programme.

The advance teams are also expected to brief district leaders on the key highlights of the 2021/2026 manifesto, the nature of scientific campaigns, and the logistical arrangements.
