Three presidential candidates including Henry Tumukunde, Mugisha Muntu and Norbert Mao are set to meet to discuss their positions about the city riots that erupted in Kampala following the arrest of Bobi Wine.
The three candidates who suspended their campaigns had scheduled their meeting today at 10 am at Kolping Hotel in Bwaise to discuss their positions about riots.
According to sources familiar with their plans, the three are trying to coordinate with the rioters who have been burning tyres, looting people's property and beating up those believed to be supporters of the NRM.
Yesterday, President Yoweri Museveni warned that the hooligans who are beating up peaceful Ugandans and vandalizing their property will soon lose that appetite.
“They have entered an area of fighting we know very well. Whoever started it will regret. Some of these groups are being used by outsiders who don't like the stability and independence of Uganda but will discover what they are looking for," Museveni while campaigning in Karamoja sub-region.
Supporters of NUP Presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi on Wednesday staged several violent protests in Kampala and urban areas characterized by vandalism, robbery and beating up of whoever was wearing yellow clothing. This was after the peaceful arrest of Bobi Wine for constantly flouting campaign guidelines aimed at containing the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Kampala Post has learnt that the police in conjunction with sister security agencies have vowed to arrest all culprits that were involved in destructive behavior during the riots in and around Kampala.
This comes as an assurance to the public given the fact that most of these violent events took place near or within CCTV camera reach and were captured on recording hence suspects are being tracked down.
The groups being identified via CCTV camera footages include those that collected car tires into the roads and set them on fire paralyzing traffic in the process, the ones who were undressing women wearing yellow dresses and blouses, and the groups that vandalized shops and stole merchandise.
Police will arrest all of them as soon as they are identified after scrutinizing the videos.
